Carolyn Stanford
Born in Darby and a graduate of Yeadon High School, now living in Miami, Carolyn Stanford Adams has performed with major opera companies, symphony orchestras, and as a recitalist throughout the United States and Europe. Her career began in summer stock with the Long Island Music Fair and Valley Forge Music Fair and on Broadway as a chorus girl in the show Jamaica with Lena Horne and Ricardo Montalban. She is also Professor Emeritus of Voice at the University of Miami in Florida, where she has chaired the Department of Vocal Performance and created and directed the Musical Theater Program. Before joining the Miami faculty, she served as Assistant Professor of Voice at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and then Associate Professor of Voice at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Ms. Stanford is a graduate of Curtis Institute in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Music; of Akademie von Musik and Darstellende Kunst, in Vienna, Austria; of Hunter College's Opera Program in New York City; and of the Hedgerow Theater Acting Program in Moylan, Pennsylvania. She is fluent in German and Italian, as well as English.
